"Let us at last praise the colonizers of dreams." -- Peter S. Beagle
- Love this movie 4-ever!!!!! O
- Why, the whole movie is my favorite thing about ROTK!! Well...I could pick out a couple of scenes I liked-I suppose. But if I get started on thinking about it...I won't be able to stop. :^) -- nevtindomeien
- Everything.
- If you think TTT was the bomb, ROTK was AMAZING! No Scouring of the Shire though. Bummer.
- The worm in the first opening shot!!! --Pippintook2097
- The very first scene shows how much joy Smeagol takes in just living his life before the Ring ruined everything. Poor guy. -- Idril
- The opening scene was both weird and disturbing. I loved it. -- Rachel the Insane Unicorn
- The fact that Peter Jackson made the murder of Deagol the first scene - very jarring to see so blatantly the fullness of Gollum/Smeagol's personality. Glad it wasn't a flashback put later in the movie. -- Pippintook2097
- "Give that to us, Deagol my love..." Brilliant scene.
- I had thought that Andy Serkis was cast to do only the voice and the computer special effects for Gollum. I was completely surprised to see them use him as the unchanged Smeagol in the first scene. Yay! -- Melvasaiel
- The Smeagol/Deagol flashback. Oh, very well done that was! "Give us that, Deagol my love..." -- Veet
- I absolutely loved how it began with Smeagol and Deagol. I am so glad they included how he got the ring in the first place. I was sick and tired of my brother asking me again and again "How did Gollum first get the Ring?" and now I will be allowed some peace and quiet. (for a little while) -- elvish_chik
- Smeagol and Deagol took me by surprise. The river was so beautiful and they were so hobbit-y and happy. And then it was heartbreaking to see them fight... just too wrong for words. -- Idril
- It was soooo creepy when Smeagol choked Deagol, and the heartbeats getting slower and slower...then stopping... brr -- palantir3owner
- When Smeagol and Deagol are fighting for the Ring, there's one shot where the Ring is lying in the grass and they're grappling for it...it's funny because it looks like they were shooting a larger Ring, the way they did on top of Caradhras so that they could have both the Ring and the person in the background in focus at the same time. I thought it was interesting. -- Melvasaiel
- The Gollum/Smeagol Flashback! Perfect. -- Tyler
- The entire sequence of Smeagol turning into Gollum...the makeup is astounding! -- ButterflyGuitar
- The transformation from Smeagol to Gollum.
- Loved how they showed Smeagol turning into Gollum ^-^
- Gollum's flashback (except for the fish part! [shudder])
- How totally disgusting was Gollum's fall from Smeagol to Gollum. The fish was nasty! -- Merithehobbit
- I love the transformation from Smeagol to Gollum.
- Smeagol's hideous transformation into Gollum as the introduction to the film. Yukky!!! -- Pippinofgondor
- I liked the part where you see Smeagol turn into Gollum at the beginning.
- When Smeagol says "Wake up, Sleepies," to Sam and Frodo in one of the opening scenes (unless I've heard wrong). -- Pippintook2097
- I just have to say, Elijah Wood is an absolute awesome actor. He alone could have portrayed Frodo Baggins just as perfectly as he did. Props for Lij, man!
- Sam's backwards brooch is still faithful to the end of the movie. His brooch has pointed to the left shoulder throughout the entire trilogy, and I was pleased to see that it was that way even in the Grey havens. -- Melvasaiel
- I noticed before that Sam had his cooking pots with him all the way into Mordor, but I just realized during my fourth viewing that he carried them despite the fact that they only had lembas bread, which doesn't require cooking. How dedicated of Sam, I am proud. -- Melvasaiel
- All scenes from The Return of the King title arrives to the last scene in Edoras.
Let say that the WHOLE movie is SOOOO... speechless and... special! - The men riding through Fangorn. -- Aradae
- It’s such a brilliant film. Overall. -- Blue
- I will NEVER stop loving Billy Boyd's Scottish accent...
- Hobbits and smiles. So cute! -- Missy
- I absolutely adore Dominic Monaghan and when I went to see the premiere for ROTK I almost died when he was dancing around drunk and high!!! THE MOVIE ROCKED by the way!!! I love how he's always with Pippin (Billy Boyd) and how he was always telling him that they would see the Shire again.
- Merry and Pip's pipe-smoking scenes and their giddy faces. -- PoetryWithWings
- Definitely the smoking of pipes at Isengard! the totally carefree-ness of hobbits :) -- KylesKW
- Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, and Gandalf with the riders of Rohan, coming into the ruins of Isengard after great travail, only to come across a couple of obviously tipsy hobbits partying their lil' hearts out. -- Dreamdeer
- When Legolas, Gimli, Aragorn, and Gandalf meet Merry and Pippin at Isengard -- SAMI
- Gimli's reaction to finding Merry and Pippin at Isengard - priceless! -- Pippintook2097
- When Merry and Pippin are in Isengard and Pippin says "The salted pork is particularly good" the look on Gimli's face is priceless. -- elvish_chik
- Merry and Pippin smoking and singing in Isengard, though there was a severe lack of Saruman.
- Merry and Pippin enjoying the 'spoils of war.' -- Arsarniel the Wild Shieldmaiden
- Seeing Merry and Pippin smoking away. -- Tyler
- ROTK was fantastic! There were so many things I loved. When Gandalf, Aragorn, Gimli, Legolas and company come upon Pippin and Merry at Isengard, you can see Legolas over Gimli's right shoulder and he has the biggest grin on his face.
- Gandalf's reaction to finding Merry and Pippin at the gates of Isengard, smoking and eating: Gandalf curls his lip in mock disgust and mutters "Hobbits!" -- tinuvielberen
- Gandalf saying: "hobbits!" in Isengard
- Gandalf muttering, "Hobbits!" after M & P talk about food. -- Aradae the Elf
- The way they dealt with the absence of Saruman -- Tyler
- Pippin's face when Gandalf walks away with the Palantir.
- It looks so real like Billy Boyd is really the size of a hobbit when he goes into the water to get the palantir and is up to his waist in it -- Silmira
- Eowyn... need I say more?
- When Eowyn offers the cup to Aragorn... -- holme
- The drinking song. [SNORK!]
- Hobbit drinking song part 2. -- bubbles
- I can't believe I have forgotten to mention Merry and Pippin's drinking song. They're so awesome. I saw the movie again yesterday for the fourth time, and right when they started to sing, the screen had a glitch, and it went black. Then it went scratchy, and then one of the before-the-previews screens came up saying, "Free refills on large popcorn" The sound came back and you could hear them singing, but the screen was still messed up. I think I would have freaked out except then the movie came back on, although not where it had left off. I should have sued...for health issues resulting from a near heart attack. -- Melvasaiel
- Merry and Pippin dancing on the table!!!! -- Taure
- When Merry and Pippin got up on the table and sang a drinking song.
- Merry and Pippin dancing on the table at Edoras. -- Arsarniel the Wild Shieldmaiden
- How Pippin and Merry are dancing around on the table and singing at the beginning. -- Rachel the Insane Unicorn
- Pippin & Merry singing about the beer at the Green Dragon. It's one of those rare moments where they get to be hobbit-y again. -- Aradae the Elf
- Merry and Pippin dancing on the tables at Edoras. -- eveningstar
- When Merry and Pippin are singing another drinking song on the table and Pippin almost kills a guy with his foot.
- Everything. Frodo and Sam's loyalty. Merry and Pippin's comedy.
- Merry and Pippin table dance AGAIN! And all of them are getting high. Are we sure this movie should be rated PG13 instead of R? Usually drug use gets R!!! lol
- I absolutely loved the songs in this movie. The new Hobbits' drinking song was great--anyone know the words? And Pippin's song was just lovely. I love his voice! -- Lightning
- I love the brand new hobbits drinking song... MUST LEARN IT! -- pipthepirate
- Drunk Merry and Pip.
- Merry and Pippin dancing on the table in Rohan, tapping each other's feet! -- Merithehobbit
- I LUV when Merry and Pippin were at Edoras and jumping around on the table and singing! "You can drink your fancy ales, you can drink 'em by the flagon, but the only brew for the brave and truuuue....comes from the Green Dragon!" -- Missy
- And Merry and Pippin singing another drunk song when they're at Edoras.
- I love it when Merry and Pippin sing when they all come back to Edoras!! That is so cute!
- The song at Edoras w/Merry & Pip
- I LOVE it when Merry and Pippin are singing and Merry kicks that guy.
- Gandalf's smile after Aragorn asks, "What does your heart tell you?" in reference to whether Frodo's still alive. This is also in the trailer. While I love the spectacle of the film, these quiet moments take my breath away just as much! -- eldritch00
- Sigh. "What does your heart tell you?"
- Smeagol "and they don't taste very nice do they" somewhat innocent and you do feel some pity for the creature though totally glad when he dies! -- The3HuntersLover
- When Gollum/Smeagol is talking to his reflection in the water, and Gollum says something about Shelob having to eat orcses, Smeagol's reply, "And they don't taste very nice, do they?" "No." -- Melvasaiel
- Gollum and Smeagol discussing the taste of orcs, "And they don't taste very nice do they precious?" -- WatchrTina
- When Sam goes and hits Gollum with a frying pan *memories of Moria*-- elvish_chik
- Gollum calling Sam a "fat hobbit" and Sam's face, like "I'm not fat, I'm just... big boned..." -- Missy
- Gollum acts like he's so terrorized by Sam to gain sympathy from Frodo. His overacting is funny, but it's in the middle of this emotional scene. Sometimes Pete uses dark humor like a knife. -- Idril
- After Frodo pulls Sam of Gollum (after Gollum's chat with his reflection in the water) Gollum hides behind a tree, like that will save him. It was tiny! -- palantir3owner
- The knowing smirk (I guess it could be called a smirk) that Gollum sends Sam after Sam finds him [Gollum/Smeagol] speaking to himself by the pool near the beginning of the movie. -- Pippintook2097
- Everything Frodo does is awesome. He is soooo hot!
- My favorite thing about ROTK was all the close ups of Legolas. HE'S SO HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Leggy close ups ;) HOTTIE!
- Gandalf sleeping with his eyes open...
- Gandalf when he's sleeping with his eyes open, great little detail! --Pippintook2097
- This might sound strange, but one of my favourite things was the atmosphere of Edoras during the palantir scene. It was a strong place with powerful people, but it seemed so vulnerable at the same time because of both the sleeping and... Pippin! Loved this scene all around! -- Oenone Tuque
- When Pippin is holding Saruman's orb thingy, when the eye shows up, it says, "I see you". I started laughing. My sister looked at me like I was crazy. -- Rachel the Insane Unicorn
- The Palantir, and Pippin's reaction at Gandalf giving him the grilling! SPOT on! -- Merithehobbit
- The way Pippin's character has become more serious. After he looks into the palantir, the fear and confusion in his eyes as Gandalf questions him makes me want to cradle him and wail, "It's going to be all right, Pippin!" -- Melvasaiel
- How Pippin didn't want to look at Gandalf after the Palantir, and how Gandalf held his hand against his cheek, so tender yet such a critical moment. Poifect! -- Merithehobbit
- The naiveness of Pippin was shown exquisitely when Merry was showing his anger towards him in Rohan. It was great how Merry asked "Why do you always have to look?" and Pippin promised he wouldn't do it again. Then Merry had to explain that the enemy now thinks Pippin has the ring. -- SheRock05
- Merry is so keen!!! The way he understands everything at the first glimpse!! I love that. And when Pippin says, "I'm sorry, all right?" and Merry: "Don't you understand?"
- Shadowfax rocks this movie! What a great animal and a lovely horse! Andalusians is the most beautiful horse breed!!
Two horses played Shadowfax... Demero (16 old Andalusian stallion) and Blanco (Andalusian stallion. Younger that Demero). Demero was the Shadowfax you see up close, as in Edoras stable, the first time you see Shadowfax in TTT and on and on. While Blanco is the running Shadowfax, show some respect for Demero, who died in July 2003 by his illness, melanomas.
I really LOVED that horse! I really wished he hadn't gotten that sickness! Shadowfax ROCKS ROTK!
R.I.P
[Editor's note: I was able to find a mention of Demero's melanoma on the American Humane society site, but couldn't find a news article documenting his death.] - Pippin and Merry's parting scene in the stable at Edoras: Awww, it was so sad and sweet! Pippin going "But we will see each other again, won't we Merry?" and Merry answers seriously "I don't know, Pip" and then Gandalf sweeps Pippin up onto Shadowfax and Pippin goes "Meeeerrryyyyy!!!" Waaah!!!!!
- Merry and Pippin being split up. Almost made me cry! -- Daonering
- I love when Pippin and Gandalf are leaving, and Pippin is finally beginning to realize just how much danger they all are in. He's always been so naive and innocent that when he asks Merry, "You're coming with us...Merry?" I want to just want to hold him and protect him. -- Melvasaiel
- Merry telling Pippin that he didn't know if they would see each other soon! **sniff!** -- Merithehobbit
- Merry and Pippin's faces when Gandalf took Pippin with him to Minas Tirith. It looked as if they didn't think they were ever going to see each other again. -- ButterflyGuitar
- Pippin, you smoke too much....I love that line!
- All the Merry and Pippin scenes. They were so touching. I shall combine this with "you smoke too much Pip", which I was going to put separately. -- Blue
- Merry's "You smoke too much." said in such a way that meant more than that. The looks on their faces as they part, sniff...waahahahhh! -- Merithehobbit
- I love Merry giving Pippin his last Longbottom leaf. "You smoke too much, Pip".
- Merry: You smoke too much, Pippin. -- eveningstar
- When they're separated, Merry gives the last of the Longbottom leaf to Pippin. -- Missy
- Merry giving Pippin a pouch of Pipeweed before Gandalf takes him to Minas Tirith and telling him that Pippin's own was all gone because, 'You smoke too much Pip.' :p-- Pippinofgondor
- I loved the movie first of all, second of all Merry and Pippin are ssoooooo CUTE:) awwwwwwwwwww... I love the scenes with the two of them together they are really sweet; you can just see how very close they are to each other. -- Kara
- Pippin calling to Merry as Gandalf took Pippin away on Shadowfax, then Merry running up to the tower. -- Aradae the Elf
- Every part I cried/teared up in: when Merry and Pippin were separated (Pip nearly ripped my heart in two with that last wail - MERRRYYYY!!!) --Now4elevensies
- Gandalf and Pippin rides away on Shadowfax from Edoras
- Shadowfax impressed me much in this movie! That horse looks SO beautiful and adorable on the screen. Go horsie!
- I also loved how Pip cries out Merry's name as he leaves with Gandalf! It's so sweet!! AWWWWWW -- tooklands_fool
- Shadowfax scenes
- Absolutely everything! -- Alquawen
- Arwen's vision of the little boy and Aragorn.
- I liked how Arwen's son stared her down, as if daring her to leave. -- palantir3owner
- The little boy in the scene when Arwen sees her future with Aragorn. He's so cute! -- ButterflyGuitar
- Arwen's reappearance and how the music was the same as her first appearance in FotR -- Arwench
- Daddy Aragorn with graying hair kissing his lovely son -- Eowyn

- Arwen's vision -- Aradae the Elf
- Arwen seeing a glimpse of her future on the way to the Grey Havens and sees Aragorn with her son Eldarion and deciding to go back to Rivendell and in turn to Aragorn. Eldarion looked like he could have been Aragorn and Arwen's son! -- Pippinofgondor
- Arwen's vision of Aragorn and Eldarion. -- Veet
- The resemblance of Arwen's child to Arwen herself. I had only to look at him to know who he was. Great casting!
- Cheers for the costume and make-up designers! -- Aradae the Elf
- The heart-wrenching scene of Aragorn as daddy...absolutely beautiful and SO touching! -- LOLEE322
- Eldarion! *squeak!* OMGWTF! -- Idril
- Figwit's 5 seconds of fame ;) (Hey, that's 2 seconds more than last time!) -- Arsarniel the Wild Shieldmaiden
- Oh, and Figwit getting a line in there. -- bubbles
- I love how all but one elf ignores Arwen as she goes back to Rivendell.
- Arwen's blue dress.
- The scene is that of Narsil reforged into Anduril. Arwen recites Bilbo's poem during the shots.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken:
The crownless again shall be king. -- dunmare - Arwen's v.o. reciting the last stanza of the poem Bilbo wrote about Aragorn. -- Aradae the Elf
- Arwen's "Ada?"
- I loved how Arwen said "Ada?", after she asked him to reforge Narsil. The question and the implied "Daddy, please do this for me" in that one word was so sweet and heartbreaking all at once.
- The amazing revelation that elves don't get cold hands, it just made me think OH! Arwen's turning mortal! And just how shocking that was to both Elrond and Arwen, like... whoa! What must it be to be mortal? -- Merithehobbit
- when Elrond was worried about Arwen's hands being cold. just the way he was so worried about it, and how it was just ever-so-slightly hinting towards how Elrond truly loved his daughter and was actually scared that she had chosen to be mortal
- My most favourite line in RotK is Arwen's line: "There is no ship now that can bear me hence." -- Miss Kitty
- Hugo Weaving. Elrond looks so much like a dad when Arwen is telling him that she is giving up her immortality regardless of what he wants because she loves Aragorn that much. Agh I love him so much! --encaitare
- Narsil being reforged -- Aradae the Elf
- The scene with the elven smiths. How one held the metal and the other pounded it...I got chills -- palantir3owner
- Well, pretty much the whole movie! It was definitely the best movie I've seen in my entire life! -- eveningstar
- The music! -- Aradae the Elf
- Minas Tirith! Amazing, truly amazing! -- Tyler

- Minas Morgul and Minas Tirith were both breathtaking. -- the Son of Ericir
- Minas Tirith was just as I pictured it. Gandalf and Pippin riding up the different levels as the music swells. -- oyster2112
- Shadowfax gallops the whole damned way to the top of Minas Tirith with the most beautiful melody in the background!
- Shadowfax racing thru Minas Tirith. -- poetrywithwings
- The White Tree. -- Merithehobbit
- Gandalf's instruction to Pippin before they enter the hall in Minas Tirith. -- wargmaster24
- Gandalf ordering Pippin not to talk at all.
- Gandalf's advice: "Perhaps it's best if you do not speak at all, Peregrin Took." -- Miss Kitty
- Gandalf telling Pippin what not to say "Just don't say anything at all", and then Pippin going in and telling Denethor about how Boromir died. -- Brydie Took
- Just before Pippin and Gandalf enter Denethor's halls Gandalf tells Pippin not to mention Boromir, then not to mention Frodo and the Ring and then telling him to not speak of Aragorn either before saying finally 'Perhaps it would be best if you did not speak at all Peregrin Took.'-- Pippinofgondor
- "Don't say anything about Boromir's death, for the news may push him over the edge. Say nothing about Aragorn. And don't mention Frodo or the ring. In fact, it may just be better if you didn't say anything at all." Gandalf to Pippin. -- ButterflyGuitar
- Gandalf!! He ROCKED!! and the Detail in his cloak I was amazed!
- When Gandalf and Pippin arrive in the great hall at Minas Tirith, everything seemed just right! So sterile, and museum like, echoy and cold, and Denethor depressed with the horn. -- Merithehobbit
- Right before we meet Denethor, in the throne room, one of the statues we get a quick glimpse of is holding what appears to be either a fruit or a very large seed! Isildur!! Like the stone trolls in FOTR, it's a wonderful, but relatively minor historical nod. -- Oenone
- Denethor is sitting on the Steward's throne, which is down below the actual throne. -- Merithehobbit
- They showed a clip of Boromir's death about 2 seconds after my sister and mom began annoying me and saying "Who's Aramir?" That way, they knew who he was. -- Rachel the Insane Unicorn
- Boromir gets a itty bit of screen time in a flashback. I was kind of surprised to see him on the credits until I remembered! :D -- Merithehobbit
- Pippins all serious like "oh, I pledge my allegiance to Gondor and all that..." then Gandalf whacks him aside, didn't see it coming. -- pippins the best
- The way Gandalf tells Pippin the WiKi stabbed Frodo on "Weathertop". In FOTR they just called it Amon-Sul, but we know what he's talking about. -- Celandine
- Any conversation between Pippin and Gandalf. This all-knowing wise man conversing with the lovingly ignorant hobbit is just great. -- ButterflyGuitar
- The whole scene w/Pippin and Gandalf after they are received by the Steward. Especially when Pippin says, "But being on the edge of one I can't escape is even worse." -- Silmira
- The tender moments between Gandalf and Pippin. -- wargmaster24
- The wit in the script writing really proved itself to me in one line; when Pippin asked if there was ever a chance for Frodo and Sam and Gandalf responds "Only a fool's hope" when earlier he had said to Pippin "Fool of a Took". -- SheRock05
- At Gondor, when Pippin asks if there ever was any hope for Frodo, and Gandalf looks at Pip and says "Only a fool's hope." I don't know if anyone else caught that, but I loved that part, cuz he's always calling Pippin a fool. -- Missy
- PJ and his kids' cameo! -- Arsarniel the Wild Shieldmaiden
- The Witch King putting on his crown. Awesome! -- Tyler
- Minas Morgul, how awesomely haunting and glowing and creepy and mysterious and cool is it when they're outside Minas Morgul. -- pippins the best
- I didn't realize this until the third movie, but in the FIRST movie, when the Ringwraiths are first sent out to the Shire, you see them leave a castle growing with green light. I had always assumed (for some reason) that it was the base of Barad-Dur, the Eye of Sauron tower. Lo and behold, it's not! It just occurred to me that that was sort of a foreshadow of Minas Tirith, which we see in the third movie. -- Melvasaiel
- Minas Morgul--just as evil and creepy as in the book and when the shot of light goes up....whew! I was hoping that would be in the movie and it was....chilling! "And Minas Morgul answered." -- Marielwing
- I saw the movie with two different people who squirmed mightily when they saw those impossibly steep stairs. I know Pete did that on purpose. Hee! -- Idril
- I love when the Witch King is making his exit from his tower and the music swells, the pretty but evil spirit thing spirals up his tower to be seen for miles, and Elijah, Sean, and Andy's performances of being terrified and covering their ears when the Witch King gives a loud, evil screech.
- When Frodo walks towards Minas Morgul, and the beam goes off, it really signals that the final war has begun. -- Tyler
- The signal from the top of Minas Morgul. There was no slow buildup or anything, it just shot up like lightning. -- Idril
- When the signal of Minas Morgul goes up. How the ground starts shaking and then there is absolutely no sound for a second or two before the light swirls up and the screeching sound begins. -- Pippinofgondor
- How the Witch King's Fell Beast perches on Minas Morgul and wraps his wings around a piece of the tower as the King watches the armies go forth. That scene was amazing. -- Merithehobbit

- I adored the fatherly love Gandalf shows Pippin when they see the light rise from Minas Morgul and Gandalf puts his hand on Pip's shoulder to comfort him. -- SheRock05
- The Witch-king and the Mordor Host leaving Minas Morgul. -- Daonering
- The Nazgul's shrieking was just overwhelmingly oppressive. -- Idril
- In Minas Tirith, Gandalf says, " here is another chance for the Shirefolk to prove their great worth" and sends Pippin up to climb the cliff and light the beacon. Think about it. The hobbits had a part in every major thing that happened. Without them, everything would have gone wrong from the beginning. If you think hard about it, the hobbits are the most important characters in the movies
- Gandalf and Pippin's conspiracy to get Pippin to light the beacon. I could almost picture Gandalf whistling and twiddling his thumbs to make it look like he wasn't up to something. -- Brydie Took
- I LOVE the look on Pip's face when he lit the beacon it's sort of like wow I better get off of this thing now! lol -- The3HuntersLover
- Pippin is so brave! If it was me climbing up that sheer slope I'd just be like "oh my God, arrrgh I'm gonna fall and DIE" but he just does it! -- Steph
- Christian Rivers playing one of the guards of the beacons! I think that was him, anyway. -- Maz
- Pippin lighting the beacon of Gondor and seeing the light pass across the mountains all the way to Rohan
- Not Exactly a Specific Thing: Perhaps I am seeing significances that do not exist. I counted at least 6 instances where the word "hope" could refer to Aragorn, most specifically the linnod from the Appendices. A minor one could be the beacon scene. It was said that they will kindle/ignite hope. When it reaches Rohan, guess who's the first one to see it... and takes off running! Ignited Hope, indeed! -- Oenone
- When Pippin lights the fire.
- When Pippin lights the signal fire and it carries across the mountains
- The lighting of the beacons of Gondor, all the way to Edoras was great. -- the Son of Ericir
- The signal fires! Beautiful! -- Idril
- The beacon fire sequence. -- Dreamdeer

- That was so awesome when all the beacons were lit from Gondor to Rohan. It kind of symbolizes all the Free Peoples unifying against Sauron's army.
- The beacons of Gondor being lit on the top of the mountains coupled with the majestic music was an absolutely breathtaking scene. Especially that part where it shows two lighting in twilight and the sky is purple and the stars are just coming out. -- Pippinofgondor
- The lighting of the beacon fires. Those were awesome. -- Veet
- Loved the beacon fires, but admit...they really reminded me of Mulan as did the whole bow thing at the end. -- Merithehobbit
- The beacons of Gondor. Awesome footage. -- Aradae the Elf
- The Scenery when the Beacons of Gordor where lit. New Zealand is so beautiful and amazing.
- The music when the beacons of Gondor were being lit. I'd buy the soundtrack just for that!
- The beacon lights. Only a paragraph or so in the book but it was so wonderfully done that it gave me goose bumps. -- oyster2112
- The lighting of the beacons. Gotta love New Zealand and Howard Shore!
- Most of all, the incredible shot of lighted signal fires calling for aid for Minas Tirith.
- Oh my God! The beacons getting lit. So exciting!
- The people who light the beacons, because you know they just stay there their whole lives with a torch waiting for the beacons to be lit. -- pipthepirate
- Beacon lighting scene. "Mountains, Gandalf! I want to see Mountains!" Beautiful New Zealand scenery. -- ButterflyGuitar
- In the scene after the beacons are lit, when Aragorn runs to Theoden's halls to tell him that Gondor calls for aid, the slight pause before Theoden agrees to go is great. -- Pippintook2097
- It was amazing the way the time stretched to its limits when Aragon bursts in yelling "The beacons are lit" and Theoden (King) takes such a loooooooooooooong time to say in return "And Rohan will answer!" It made me want to stand up and cheer out loud. My heart was beating so furiously. Wow!!!
- Lighting of the beacons...and then the pause before Theoden said, "And Rohan will answer!" -- Arwench
- I LOVED Hearing the Edoras music again that fiddle!! Jeeze amazing
- Eomer's cry: "Now is the hour! Oaths you have taken!" It's as if to the Rohirrim, poetry and honor and ritual are almost the same thing. -- Idril

- The whole horse charge thing! When the Rohirrim ride out of Dunharrow, when Faramir and his men ride back to Osgiliath (sob), and the charge of the Rohirrim at the Pelenor fields. Each made me tear up every time. -- Celandine
- O and the part when the Rohirrim are riding to Dunharrow and Merry is on his little pony lol that was funny!
- All in all, I loved everything. *big grin* -- Veet

- Gandalf's riding to the aid of the retreating defenders of Osgiliath choked me up. -- the Son of Ericir
- when Gandalf rides out save Faramir from the Nazgul and a blast of white light shines out -- EarthAthelas
- Gandalf and Pippin rides out to rescue the riders of Gondor from the Nazgul. AWZSOME!
- And when he [Gandalf] went out to help the soldiers returning from Osgiliath! that was awesome!!
- When Gandalf rides out to meet Faramir, I like how there's just the one solo voice singing. They used the same solo voice in TTT when the Ents came out of the woods to attack Isengard, and when Aragorn looks out the window and sees the sunlight as he remembers Gandalf's "Look to my coming..." I love that singing. I had thought it was a woman singing, but then I watched some special features, which showed a young boy singing. -- Melvasaiel

- The way the stairs of Cirith Ungol were filmed so that it actually made me dizzy. -- Marielwing
- At the forbidden pool, Frodo says, "Come, Smeagol. Trust master. Come." On the stair Gollum says, " Come Master! Come. Come to Smeagol." And their gestures mirror each other's. It's very creepy because that's when Frodo betrayed him to Faramir's Men. -- Idril
- John Noble did a great job playing Denethor. Kudos! -- The3HuntersLover
- How when Pippin was reciting that thing (sorry can't think of the word) to Denethor how he was saying it perfectly till that one point and he kinda stumbled over the words... and just Pippin in general.
- Pippin looks so awesome in his Gondor uniform! -- Melvasaiel
- Pippin's oath (and beside this, Denethor's cruelty having his son standing behind the little hobbit, waiting for everything, his attention, his approval, his love, wow, soooo cruel!!)
- Pippin swearing fealty to Denethor in debt to Boromir saving he and Merry's lives and you can see that it touched Denethor somewhere in his heart by the small smile he gets on his face. -- Pippinofgondor

- Yeah! Faramir's look in that scene was great. John Noble did a great job in portraying Denethor. -- EarthAthelas

- Faramir when Denethor told him he would rather have had him die instead of Boromir. *sniff* -- The3HuntersLover
- How mean Denethor is to Faramir. I feel so sorry for Faramir, but I also pity Denethor, because he is so blinded by his favorite son that he cannot see what a good person Faramir is.
- The tears in Faramir's eyes when Denethor tells him he wished he had died instead of Boromir.
- Pippin's Face When Denethor tells Faramir that he would have him die instead of Boromir. -- The3HuntersLover
- Seriously though. The expression on Faramir's face when Denethor confirmed that he had wished he was dead instead of Boromir and then the way he said " Since you are robbed of Boromir, I will do what I can in his stead" That broke my heart. Fantastic acting. Then the whole sequence where he rides with his men thru the streets of Minas Tirith and then out of the gates to charge towards Osgiliath and their certain doom. Howard Shores soundtrack, Pippins lament, superb acting and directing made that the sequence of the movie for me. -- FaramirsGirl

- Faramir's tears when Denethor told him that he wished Boromir was still alive and that Faramir had been the one who died. -- Arwench
- Pippin looks so horrified when Denethor is so mean to Faramir. He obviously can't imagine a father being so cruel to his only (surviving) son. 3 cheers to Billy Boyd! He's such an awesome actor. -- Aradae the Elf
- Faramir. He's so cute and Denethor is so nasty to him. I love how he seeks approval and will seek it in death if necessary. "That would depend on the manner of your return," Denethor says to him when Faramir asks for a little more respect if he comes back from Osgiliath... I mean, who says that to their own son? Poor Faramir... --encaitare

- I also love how Sam is tightening his belt in the moments before Gollum accuses him of eating all the lembas. - When the Gondorians throw flowers to Faramir's men as they leave to retake Osgiliath, one of the older men takes some of the flowers handed up to him. It makes them suddenly seem more human, not just anonymous soldiers in armor, but good men who are loved, and will die, and will be mourned. -- Idril
- Gondorian women and children throwing flowers to the road - and did anyone else notice PJ's kids as Gondor children? They're cute no matter what they're playing! --Pippintook2097
- The steel look on Faramir's face as he rides out on the suicide mission. -- Arsarniel the Wild Shieldmaiden
- Faramir's devastated look at his father's rejection but the strength and honor that he demonstrated in facing this loss without bitterness and doing his duty nonetheless. Now THAT is much more like the warrior-poet of the book that I fell head over heels for. -- Sillimarilli

- When Denethor bites into the cherry during Pippin's song, and it looks like dripping blood.
- Pippin singing!!!!!!!!!!! I thought it was really sweet! Does anyone know if that was actually Billy Boyd singing there?
- Tears fell from my eyes as Pippin sang his song and Faramir, along with his men, rode to doom. Contrary to [another post]though, Billy did not write that song. That was another one of Tolkien's masterpieces in poetry.
Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths o tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We'll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade.
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

- Ever noticed as Faramir's army leaves Minas Tirith after Faramir and Denethor's talk, there's this horse that's like out of control and can't like stay in line. Look for it when you are given an aerial view of the horses charging.
- Pippin sings! His voice as a background for Faramir's hopeless charge on Osgiliath is so sweet and sad. It also made me hate Denethor more that he could treat Pippin with such indifference when he is going through such a sad time. -- Melvasaiel

- This line has been rattling around my head since I first saw the movie, "The way is shut. It was made by those who are dead, and the dead keep it. The way is shut." I like how Legolas says it first, sort of zoned out and talking to no one, and then the ghost repeats it. Like either he's mocking Legolas, or Legolas had had a foreshadow of the ghost saying it.

- Shelob. I knew it was coming and I sat on the edge of my seat for a 1/2 hour.
- When I heard a bunch of girls scream and guys gasp, when they saw Shelob. I thought that was the funniest thing you can really tell who hasn't read the books and just came to see Orlando Bloom! -- The3HuntersLover
- Frodo caught in the web. In fact, the whole terror of Shelob's lair, once I let go of the way the book had it. -- Dreamdeer
- Gollum's song when Frodo is caught in the web:
Pretty (?) little fly,
Why does it cry?
Caught in a web,
Soon you'll be . . . eaten.
Loved that it doesn't rhyme. -- WatchrTina - SHELOB!!! -- Aradae the Elf
- Shelob, scarier then I imagined. -- Tyler
- o ya and when Frodo finally believes Sam about Gollum and starts punching the crap out of Gollum. *yes I know its violent*-- elvish_chik
- The addition of the scene where Galadriel takes Frodo by the hand and pulls him to his feet. When the scene changes back to Mordor his body language reads just like someone who has been pulled upright, even though he is alone. -- WatchrTina
- We finally saw Galadriel's merry side. I loved her expression and the way she helped Frodo up. In the books she always seemed far away from them and very ethereal. But here she was so close that you could feel her warmth of her hand. -- Idril
- That amazing grin by Galadriel when she pulls Frodo up to get going after his first encounter with Shelob. -- Merithehobbit
- LOVED the look of determination on Frodo's face as he grasped Galadriel's hand and then was lifted up only to be back in Shelob's lair. Also loved seeing him lift the light of Earendil to ward off the spider. -- rejoicing9
- The lingering cobwebs in Frodo's hair when he dreams (thinks, blacks out, whichever you prefer) of Galadriel in Lothlorien. -- Pippintook2097
- The trolls banging on the drums and I liked when they was shouting Grond!! -- EarthAthelas
- More gate crashing in Minas Tirith (with Gandalf and a few soldiers of Gondor this time).
- The dust and dirt falling from the door with every hit of the door-rammer-thing (shaped like a huge wolf head filled with fire, I believe) during the siege of Gondor. -- Pippintook2097
- It’s so sad when Gandalf inspires the soldiers to do their best, and it’s just not enough. When the trolls come through the gate, all they can do is die fighting them. -- Idril
- Gandalf: "What ever comes through that gate, you must be prepared to fight. Two huge trolls crash through the gate two seconds later... he he he... -- UrukhaiRaider
- Gate crashing Minas Tirith with the mega-huge super gigantic gate crasher from Mordor. -- UrukhaiRaider
- Grond has these round claws and a fire in its mouth. You know that a battering ram doesn't have to be decorated like that to work, but it's utterly intimidating. -- Idril
- Shelob stalking Frodo and Frodo's vision of Galadriel. -- Daonering
- How EVERYONE in the audience gasped in horror at the front legs of Shelob creeping out in preparation for her sneak attack! -- Merithehobbit
- From the moment that Shelob's feet reappear until the moment that Frodo falls there is almost no sound in the movie. There is no swelling, ominous music, only the rustle of Frodo's movements. All the better to hear gasps and murmurs of "oh shit" in the theatre. -- WatchrTina
- Shelob.
- Shelob was big and icky and creep and completely awesome! So creepy as she snuck up on Frodo. -- Shayanne99
- And when Frodo foams at the mouth after he has been stabbed. Nice touch. Like rabies. Ok shutting up.
- Frodo foams at the mouth when the spider bites him. Cool. -- Rachel the Insane Unicorn

- Sam's sudden return to rescue Frodo from Shelob. We were all cheering our heads off.
- One more I forgot! When Sam combats with Shelob and kicks serious butt!!! -- Missy
- The look on Sam's face when he shows up to save Frodo from Shelob. -- Trisha
- You can hear a little "chink!" when Shelob flicks the phial away. -- Idril
- Shelob flicking the glass away is a goodie. -- qkbeam
- Sam, the true hero of the movie
- "Don't go where I can't follow."
- Watch carefully--when Sam adjusts Frodo's head ("don't go where I can't follow"), his eyes move slightly. Elijah Wood might have been looking at something to keep his eyes still, but when his head was passively moved, his eyes continued to fixate on whatever it was he was looking at.
Don't know whether or not PJ and Elijah were aware of this, but this is precisely how a comatose (but not dead) person's eyes often work; if you turn the head from side to side, the eyes continue to look straight ahead as if tracking a stationary object as the head moves. The phenomenon is referred to as "Doll's eyes" (old-fashioned dolls had eyes weighted to behave this way).
Frodo in that scene was NOT dead, so the eye movement was quite appropriate. -- tinuvielberen - Sam's "don't go where I can't follow." -- Idril
- When Sam breaks down saying "not asleep . . . dead" and clasps Frodo's web-wrapped body to his chest, keep you eyes on Frodo's eyes. There is the smallest of twitches. And I'm betting it was done on purpose. We see it, but Sam can't. Very cool. -- WatchrTina
- Throughout the entire second half of the movie, Sam has the faint outline of tears going down his cheeks.
- "Don't go where I can't follow." Tears started there...
- Gorbag! I love the way he walks: hunched, but almost prim. -- Idril
- Pippin crying he's still alive and Denethor dragging him out of the houses of the dead. -- Brydie Took

- The arrival of the Rohirrim, and Theoden's last speech. -- Tyler
- Rohan arrives at Pelennor! Damn that looks GREAT at the big screen!
- Theoden's speech... -- holme
- I was expecting Theoden's speech [at Pelennor] to have a powerful effect. That did not prepare me for the intensity of his army's reaction. The mass cry of "Death!" was amazing. I expected that from Eowyn, but... Merry?! When he said it, too, I nearly wept. --Oenone
- Theoden "riding down the spears," smacking his sword against his men's spears in the front line. There was something special about that gesture, like it erased the possibility that they could ever lose. -- Idril
- Theoden's speech and clashing his sword on the spears. -- Brydie Took
- Loved many scenes. Rohirrim comes to Pelennor. "Ride now. Ride now. Ride, ride for ruin and the worlds ending! FORTH EORLINGAS! DEATH!!" Love that line!
- The Rohirrim, charging in expecting to die, but going in nonetheless.
- Theoden touching his sword to the spears of his men. -- bubbles
- "DEATH!" So touching again. -- The3HuntersLover
- The Battle of Pelennor Fields was even more amazing than I ever would have guessed!!! All in all IT WAS THE MOST AMAZING PIECE OF CINEMATIC HISTORY I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY WHOLE ENTIRE LIFE!!!!!!
- The Rohirrim trampling the orcs filled me with joy -- the Son of Ericir
- The attack of the Rohirrim on the orc horde. -- WatchrTina
- Theoden and the Rohirrim charging into battle and the orcs moving away in fear.
- And The Ride of the Rohirrim is also a highlight! All the songs are heart breaking and fits PERFECTLY to their scene!
- Howard Shore. Is. Amazing. The Rohan theme is his single greatest work on the whole movie, in my opinion. And Dermot Crehan, who performs it, is my hero. --encaitare
- The look on the evil Orcs as the Rohirrim ride to kill them and how Determined they were to do that. The Orcs are thinking holy crap. We're screwed cuz most of the riders kept riding even if they were shot. Only if their horses were killed or they were killed did they stop. HA HA!! GO ROHIRRIM! -- The3HuntersLover
- The Ride of the Rohirrim into the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. It was so glorious. -- shieldmaiden
- I LOVED the Rohan's rallying for battle and when the camera pulls back and you see how many there are. I cry every time. Yeah Peter! -- oyster2112
- The mass numbers of orcs at the Pelennor. -- Tyler
- The sound of the Rohirrim's horns as they begin the battle. -- bubbles
- Horse charges!!! -- holme
- The horns of the Rohirrim at their charge. -- Arsarniel the Wild Shieldmaiden
- The way the fiddle music plays the Rohan theme when Rohan attacks. -- Tyler
- The pyre of Denethor. -- Aradae the Elf
- I didn't like Denethor, so I really liked it when he got smacked by Gandalf, and when he's on fire and he runs off a cliff. (stupid)
- When Faramir woke up just before being burned, he's too hot to go down like that.
- Pippin pushing Faramir off the burning pyre. -- Veet
- When Boromir's dad caught on fire and started running around. That wouldn't be exactly funny if it hadn't been for my dad who said "STOP, DROP AND ROLL!" then when it shows him falling off the cliff, my dad said "Ah, that's not what you were supposed to do." -- Rachel the Insane Unicorn
- When Pippin and Gandalf saved Faramir.
- When that one dude catches fire and falls off the cliff where all the orcs are fighting.
- Denethor's death. I hated the guy, he was SO mean to poor Faramir, and I thought it was so cool looking when he ran off the tip of Minis Tirith all in flames! -- Missy
- How Denethor dies by falling off the courtyard of Minas Tirith and how it goes straight to the battle from that.
- The way Gandalf says "There passes Denethor, son of Ecthelion (whatever) as we see Denethor run over the cliff. -- Tyler
- Where the steward jumps off the city as a human torch
- Denethor's death scene, truly emotional the way he falls off the cliff in flames. -- Tyler
- I felt pity for Denethor in this movie when he sees Faramir alive, but he himself is burning to death and (instead of stopping, dropping, and rolling) runs off the citadel.
- When Denethor is on fire and jumps off the cliff!!
- Why on earth would Denethor JUMP OFF THE CLIFF!?!? I mean really, couldn't he have just gone out in town and asked to be drenched??? honestly! But the rest of the movie was really, really, really cooooooool :-)
- How Faramir opens one eye slightly and looks at his father has if to say, "I hope you're proud of me."
- I've always liked that Aragorn gets this crazy ferocious look on his face when he's fighting. I think I just saw Eomer beat him at his own game. -- Idril
- Theoden's euphoria at the success of the attack, followed by the look of dismay as he sees the line of mumakil. And then he reforms the line and attacks again. -- WatchrTina
- The Mumakil were sweet -- EarthAthelas
- Did I mention horse charges?!? -- holme
- The way the mumakil can run, just like stampeding elephants. Nothing like the lumbering ATATs in Star Wars. -- WatchrTina
- The oliphants have expressions... when they fall down their faces register fear and they wince in pain when they are hit by arrows.
- The whole Mumakil thing was just like soo totally COOL!!!
- Eomer spearing the guy on the mumak. -- bubbles
- Eomer kills two of the mumakil with one spear. -- Idril

- Eowyn taking down the Mumak and Merry at the reins. -- Merithehobbit
- There's this whole rhythm to the action that's wonderfully done. When Gandalf talks about death being just another path, it's a lot like when Sam sings his song in Cirith Ungol in the books. It gives this real feeling that the darkness will not last forever. -- Idril
- Gandalf explaining that death was just a doorway on the path, totally amazing scene! Loved it! -- Merithehobbit
- When Gandalf talks to Pippin about death (ooh I cried there) -- EarthAthelas
- Gandalf describing death to Pippin ("all will turn to silver glass".) I almost started crying.
- I also love flashbacks for one odd reason. It makes the story so deeper. Gandalf telling Pippin about the death. So touching and If you listening to "Into The West" you can hear words that Gandalf mention about death "...and all will turn to silver glass"
- When Gandalf is describing death's journey to Pippin.
- There's a small scene during the battle in Minas Tirith where Gandalf and Pippin are sitting together on some sort of balcony, with fighting going on all around them. Behind Pippin there is potted plant with pretty red flowers that has somehow been untouched. For some reason I love this, it's so pretty right in the midst of all the killing. -- Pippintook2097
- Gandalf and Pippin's discussion about death and dying. Tear jerking. -- Tyler
- Theoden's desperate "Bring it down! Bring it down! Bring it down!" -- Idril

- I loved how they included the competition between Legolas and Gimli of how many enemies they had killed...teehee I think it's cute!
- The counting game, Part II! Legolas keeps counting as he knocks Southrons off the mumak. -- Idril
- My Favorite Little Thing is and has always been Orlando. I just love his face every time he shoots an arrow.
- I went to go see it on opening night and I have to say the best part was when Legolas climbed up on the oliphaunt and did his little thing. the entire audience cheered. This was absolutely the best movie of all time!!
- Legolas' whole mumak thing. -- Aurora Willow
- I LOVE Legolas' stunt killing the oliphaunt. Anything that makes my Elf look more dashing! ;-) I know it seems a bit corny by the end, but it's really cool nonetheless. And Gimli's snide remark at the end relieves any sense of unbelief. -- rejoicing9
- Lego STILL counting as he is on the mumak! 33 34 35... --The3HuntersLover
- Legolas' performance with the oliphaunt ("93...94!") Spectacular and smooth. Although he could have done without the extra little hop off the end of the oliphaunt's trunk, it was still wonderful. Totally like Legolas to kill a whole bunch of enemies and still come out unscratched and picture perfect clean. And Gimli's, "That still only counts as one!" -- Melvasaiel
- Legolas sliding down the animals (I think it was an oliphaunt) trunk and the look on his face right after he does the slide thing. I love it!!
- O, also lurved the Leggy/Oliphaunt bit... WICKED.
- Promised not to say this, but yes, Legolas and the Mumak.
- When Legolas brought down the Oliphaunt!
- I liked Minas Tirith definitely but I also liked how Sam stood out in this one oh ya and the whole Legolas takes down the Oliphaunt part.
- Legolas' acrobatics atop the enormous Mumakil then after killing it calmly sliding off the trunk with style! Gimli's comment 'That still counts as one!'-- Pippinofgondor
- I was a quite disappointed that Legolas is hardly in the movie! Of course he has one of the coolest scenes, where he kills that oliphaunt, but he didn't say too much!
- Legolas killing oliphaunt! That is WAAAAY cool! And it doesn't look as fake as him jumping upon Arod in TTT. (By the way. Did you notice that Arod is at the Black Gate, when he ran away at the Parts of the Death...? Odd)
- I also liked the part where Legolas climbed up the Elephant. I guess they put that in there because all the Legolas fans whined because he didn't do much in that one. -- Orlando lover
- I loved when Legolas took down the Oliphaunt and was like No Sweat! "That only counts as one!" -- elvish_chik
- When Legolas did his trick on the Oliphaunt.
- The one thing I won't forget until it comes out next year in DVD is Legolas jumping atop the Mumakil. If you really looked, you will see that he shot 3 arrows in the Mumak's head. Then Gimli replied "that only counts as 1!"
- You have to admit the Legolas/Mumakil thing was pretty funny, even without Gimli's comment. -- spade_queen
- The oliphaunt w/Leggy
- When Legolas takes down the entire Oliphaunt and Gimli says, "That still counts as one!"
- I LOOOOOOVE it when Legolas climbs up onto that Oliphaunt.... that was sooooooo cool.
- And Leggie bringing down the mumak by himself. My mom once commented about him, "If he's so good, why don't they send more of him?" good question. -- bubbles
- Legolas taking down the Mumakil and riders, and then he just gracefully walks off! LOL! Wow! -- Merithehobbit
- I know everyone else hates it, but didn't Legolas look hot surfing around on that oliphaunt. HMMMMMMMm yummy

- Legolas fighting the Mumakil. -- Aradae the Elf
- Legolas' little stunt with the Oliphaunt. So irrelevant and yet so darn fine. -- shadowsyra
- When Legolas leaps onto the Mumak, you just know he's doomed. (The Mumak, not Legolas) -- Idril
- The crazy thing that Legolas does, killing the mumak all by himself. The look on his face when it and all the riders on it are dead and he jumps off is all, "whoa. Go me." So nice. And then Gimli goes, "that still only counts as one!" Silly Gimli. --encaitare
- I love how Legolas jumped up onto the oliphaunt, killed all the bad guys, and then shot the oliphaunt in the head. When he jumped down off the oliphaunt Gimli was standing there and said, "That only counts as one!"
- Legolas' graceful landing and casual hair flip after he kills the Mumakil -- Arwench
- I also loved how after Legolas totally kicked ass in the Oliphaunt scene, he simply slides off gracefully with a smirk, and Gimli says, "THAT ONLY COUNTS AS ONE!!"

- That Sting was glowing blue as its tip pierced through the body of the orc that was threatening to "bleed" Frodo. -- WatchrTina
- All of the close-ups (of Frodo especially)

- When Sam had the Ring in his hand, and Frodo telling him "Give me the Ring..." Sam's hesitation was just awesome, he finally understood what Frodo was going through, and even though he was only under the Ring's influence for a short time, he still was partially seduced by him. Shows how destructive the Ring really is, even when good ole Sam is taken for second! --Now4elevensies

- Loved the movie!! -- shieldmaiden
- The Black Gate is a GREAT scene. And the rest of the doom of Mordor.
- When Aragorn shouts "Let the Lord of the Black Land come forth," he seems both very small and very proud. It's supposed to trick Sauron into thinking he has the Ring, and to me it seems very convincing -- nobody in their right mind would ride up and expect to defeat Sauron like that. -- Idril
- Any line in the movie that was in the book... I leaned over towards my non-reading friends and said "That line was in the book!" Wow, I'm such a LotR nerd..... Oh well.
- Black Gate and Mordor. Switching from Black Gate to Mordor and back is SO great! And when Aragorn, Legolas and the rest ride away from the gate when it's opening is such a cool image!!
- The Black Gate Opens is also SUCH a lovely song! This song is heard at the beautiful scene at the Black Gate and Frodo and Sam's horrible trip up Mt. Doom. So perfect! (I have to say something... The Black Gate is also ONE of the BEST scenes in the movie! Gandalf cries! Legolas tries to get to Aragorn (right?), and you see the fear in the dear elf's eyes. And Aragorn getting squeest by the ugly creature. And Pippin crying when they think Frodo is dead after the blow from Mt. Doom)
- The Eye of Sauron, how it looks around in a realistic eye movement, not slowly sweeping, but jerking from spot to spot like real eyes do! Even more noticeable when it is about to implode! WOW! -- Merithehobbit
- The Eye kept looking around. I could have never imagined that they'd give Sauron's Eye a personality. When Barad-dur crumbled, it was all sad. Aww! -- Idril
- Aragorn's speech in front of the Black Gate. -- shieldmaiden
- Aragorn's speech that I nearly memorized. -- Silmira
- Aragorn's speech at the gates. -- Tyler
- Aragorn's rallying speech in front of the gates of Mordor -- Eowyn909
- Aragorn's speech... -- holme
- I love all the parts that have been mentioned, but I have to put emphasis on the speech by Aragorn at the Black Gate. It made me cry (not the only time I did mind you), although, I think it was better said in the trailer with the music. -- Holly
- Aragorn's rousing speech in front of the Black Gates. So great. --encaitare
- I started crying when Frodo gave his last ounce of strength to try and climb up Mt. Doom -- Frippy
- The scars/abrasions on Frodo's neck as the movie progresses. --Pippintook2097
- The music that plays while Frodo struggles to climb up Mt. Doom - traces of that familiar "Concerning Hobbits" music, with something like an Irish tin whistle. -- Pippintook2097
- The marks around Frodo's neck where the weight of the ring, heavy on its chain, has rubbed. His neck shows the sign of prolonged chafing in the shirtless scene, but by the Mt. Doom scenes his neck is actually torn and bleeding. In fact I think the make-up in every Mordor scene after the orc gear comes off is simply phenomenal. -- WatchrTina
- The Ring must be very heavy. The chain keeps tearing Frodo's neck to shreds. -- Idril
- Sam and Frodo crawling upwards Mount Doom. So touching all of it. At the Crack of Mount Doom the music is SO JUDGEMENT day like! Perfect! So alike to the book!
- Mt. Doom sequence was absolutely heart breaking
- Frodo clawing his way up the rocks. -- Dreamdeer
- Gimli saying he can fight with Legolas as a friend. -- Silmira
- I loved when Gimli said "I never thought I would die fighting side-by-side with an elf." and then Legolas says "What about side-by-side with a friend?" It was so touching. *wipes away tear* -- elvish_chik
- I love the movie Peter Jackson is the greatest. Oh and I cried soo much when Sam was talking to Frodo about the Shire (tears were falling it looked like Niagara Falls)
- The fact that Samwise mentions strawberries....*snork* --Pippintook2097
- The way you can see Frodo's neck getting all raw and bloody from the chain as you get further into the movie; the Ring is weighing down physically as well as mentally. -- Melvasaiel
- Frodo and Sam on the mountain. -- Tyler
- When they're in Mordor, and Frodo says, "...there is no veil between me, and the wheel of fire!" Those lines are also in the book. -- Melvasaiel
- The exchange between Sam and Frodo on Mount Doom about the Shire, where Frodo says "there is nothing now between me and the wheel of fire." Awesome acting here by Elijah! -- Marielwing
- I got very teary eyed when Sam was talking about the Shire and Frodo said he couldn't see it anymore. -- Frippy
- The wounds on Frodo's neck getting worse and worse through the movie as the Ring gets heavier. What detail. *bows and worships* -- Arwench
- Sam telling Frodo, "I may not be able to carry your burden, but I can carry you!" -- shieldmaiden
- Sam: "I can't carry the ring for you Mister Frodo, but I can carry you."
- Also loved the way Sam said to Frodo, "I can't help you carry the ring, but I can carry YOU!" and does so up the side of Mount Doom.
- Frodo dragging himself up Mount Doom to the beautiful Celtic flute music. And then Sam saying, "I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you!" I cried. -- Arwench
- "I can't carry the ring for you, but I can carry you"
- Sam saying "I can't carry it, but I can carry you!" and carries Frodo up Mount Doom! -- Missy
- Sam: "I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you!" -- Thran
- Sam: "I can't carry the ring for you, but I can carry you" -- pippins the best
- "I can't carry it, but I can carry YOU!" Sam carries Frodo up the mountain. Frodo flops around uselessly for the whole movie. ^_^;; -- shadowsyra
- The scene on Mount Doom at the point where Sam picks up Frodo and staggers up the mountain. The music is tremendous and the extent of Sam's devotion to Frodo is touching.
- Sam finally picking him up. -- Dreamdeer
- Sam carries Frodo like any true friend would. -- Silmira
- The charge at the gate. Aragorn: For Frodo! Beautiful.
- "For Frodo!"
- Aragorn when he says "For Frodo" and then starts running at the orc mob...and how he's magically on foot and his horse has disappeared -- Arwench
- "For Frodo."
- Aragorn: (The nicest, most innocent smile back at Gandalf and the hobbits) " For Frodo" (and then the charge).
That was such an awesome act of faith for the character of Aragorn. Just like Arwen, he tied his life and the life of the others to the fate of the ring. He had such faith in Frodo. That line "For Frodo" and Sam's "I can't carry it for you, but I can carry you!" lines made me cry. (They are my favorite lines in the whole movie) -- ilovelotr - I think it is kinda funny. Did anyone notice the disappearing horses? When Aragorn and the armies are out side of the gates of Mordor that they were mounted, but when it comes back to that scene, the horses are gone and they are on foot. Where are the horses?!!!!
- The poignant, "For Frodo," uttered by Aragorn before he charges against the orcs at the Black Gate.
- Merry and Pippin leading the army of men up to the Black Gate of Mordor, but are passed by because of their short legs.
- Aragorn at the Black Gate just up and RUNS at the enemy. Everyone else is all Wha? And then they run after him. -- Idril
- Aragorn running into battle "For Frodo!" and Merry and Pippin the first ones to run after him, then being swamped by the crowd. -- Brydie Took
- Aragorn spurred into action (all on his lonesome) and charging at the enemy even though they're surrounded -- tinuviel
- The hobbits running into battle. -- Silmira
- Merry and Pippin being the first of the army to follow Aragorn's charge at the Black Gate (although the darlings do get overtaken by everyone else!)
- How in the fight at the black gate Aragorn runs forward and Merry and Pippin running after him. -- Trisha
- The way the Hobbits charge after Aragorn and then got overrun by the rest of the army. -- wargmaster24
- At the Black Gate, after Aragorn runs out to meet the Orcs, and Merry and Pippin run out next yelling war cries, and all you see are these short little Hobbits running out from a huge battle line of Men lol! -- Missy
- The fact that Merry and Pippin are the first people (besides Aragorn) to charge.
- That Frodo has some spirit at the end. Even though Sam has to carry him up, (that was so awesome) he has this wonderful determined look as he makes the last dash and then he fights with Gollum after the chomp! Wow! -- Merithehobbit
- The moth! Then you know the Eagles are coming! -- Marielwing
- The moth that always appears before Gwaihir the eagle thing!!!!!!.....I named him Fluffy The Moth!!!
- The moth! And the eagles! -- Idril
- The eagles!
- "The eagles are coming!" Nice reference to "The Hobbit."
- The eagles. -- Tyler
- The eagles fighting the Nazgul in flight. -- Brydie Took
- Frodo's evil smirk as he claims the Ring. As creepy as the "They're here" from "The Two Towers." -- Daonering
- "I'm here, Sam." It's a simple line, but you can tell by the way he says it that there's gonna be trouble.
- I may be the only one who loved this, but I loved the way that Frodo said, "I'm here, Sam!" in Mount Doom. Elijah got the tone of voice just right; it just speaks volumes, in my opinion. But that's just me, I'm strange.
- The lighting and make-up and wind effect and most of all, the look on Elijah's face as Frodo holds the ring out over the lava and contemplates dropping it. -- WatchrTina
- The way the scene with Frodo and Same inside Mount Doom mirrored the scene in the very beginning of FotR with Elrond and Isildur -- Arwench
- The tension evident in Frodo's body, seen from behind as he stands over the Cracks of Doom...just as described in the book and even better than my imagination! -- Marielwing
- I noticed something about Frodo when he claims the ring for his own above the cracks of doom. Just before he puts the ring on, his hair flying, and his face looking evil-like, he looked just like Isildur from the first movie. Seriously, I saw ROTK 3 times, he looked just like Isildur when Elrond says " Cast it into the fire" and Isildur says "No"
- Wow, Elijah Wood's performance at the Crack of Doom was amazing. His sick evil smile after he chooses to keep the Ring - it made me cringe. -- rejoicing9
- How Frodo looks exactly the way Isildur did at Mount Doom. Ditto for Sam and Elrond
- The lighting and make-up and wind effect and most of all, the look on Elijah's face just after Frodo declares "The ring is mine!" -- WatchrTina
- The great close-ups on Frodo's eyes in the moments when he is suspicious of Sam, and also near the end when he makes the decision to keep the ring. He looks so cruel right there. --encaitare
- At the end when Frodo is standing on the edge of Mt. Doom, and the look on his face is so adorable! He looks sooooo hot.
- I loved the fact that even though I knew what was going to happen on Mount Doom, the filmmakers made it so well that I was squeezing the bejesus out of my husband's hand until that scene was over! -- nyasa
- How Gollum looks when he is just floating in midair because Frodo is invisible.
- I just aaabsolutely loved it when Gollum was fighting invisible Frodo. I don't think it was supposed to be funny, but I was laughing :-)
- Gollum hopping upon an invisible Frodo in Mt. Doom. Hearing him scream, and seeing Gollum floating in the air was just neat. -- ButterflyGuitar
- Gollum floating on air! -- Melvasaiel
- When Gollum is fighting w/the unseen Frodo.
- When Legolas is struggling to get to Aragorn when he's being squished by that troll at the Black Gate. Legolas is my LOTR crush, and I love his expression as he shoots stuff. But here it's just heartbreaking because his expression is of fear, frustration, and fury (Oo, three F's). In a sense, I wish I could have just grabbed him in a holding embrace and told him to not worry; everything's going to be fine. (So many times I have wanted to do this to characters...) -- Melvasaiel
- Gollum bites off the wrong finger, but that's okay...it's still a good scene.
- How they did the scene where Gollum bites off Frodo's finger. I love how Gollum showed SO much expression when he got the ring! And Sam and Frodo...What a friendship!
- Legolas losing his elvish cool when fighting through the fray to try and get to Aragorn, who appears to have fallen for good. -- Dreamdeer
- I love the music that's playing while Gollum has the ring. It's like, everything that wasn't supposed to happen, happened, and all is lost. -- Hobbitgrl
- How Gollum is SOOOOOOOOOO happy and relieved to get the ring at the end, the music swells, it's almost a moment where you feel both horrified by him and feel satisfaction for him. -- Merithehobbit
- The soundtrack was wonderful! I finished listening to the whole thing today, and the part where Frodo is in Mount Doom and he's battling with Gollum...that part with the chorus singing really intensely...that part GIVE ME THE JIBBLIES!!! Oh wait...the whole thing GIVE ME THE JIBBLIES!!! -- Melvasaiel
- Gollum's happiness as he fell into the fire with the Ring.
- I got mad when Frodo fell over the edge... until I saw him hanging on. I think I cheered and got some strange looks from people.
- Gollum at the end...that smile, as he finally has his ring, but he's falling... -- Shayanne99
- I love how when Gollum falls down into the lava, he's still smiling like mad because he has his precioussss. It's also really sad. Also, when he's actually IN the lava and he's trying to keep hold of the ring... I started crying harder. -- Rachel the Insane Unicorn
- Gollum falling into the fire. -- Tyler
- List of people that I am SERIOUSLY happy that they died: Denethor, all of the orcs, trolls, Mumakil, and other armies, the Witch King, that orc general with the nasty face, Sauron (of course), and GOLLUM, GOLLUM, GOLLUM!! -- Melvasaiel
- I loved how Sam reached down for Frodo and ordered him not to let go. "Don't let go!" I was terrified for a split second that he actually would! Shows how real the movie was, that I forgot what happened in the book! -- palantir3owner
- Every single scene with Sam in it--especially dragging Frodo back from the brink in more ways than one. -- Dreamdeer
- Frodo hanging off the rock lip in the Crack of Doom and Sam's empathic plea to choose him and life and hope when he lost the Ring. Wasn't sure how PJ would show Frodo's despair and longing, but that look he gave down into the fiery abyss really captured it for me. -- Sillimarilli
- The way that the ring floats on top of a slightly cooled patch of lava for the longest time - I don't think I blinked until I saw that thing melt! -- Trisha
- How I cried like a buffoon in like the last 45 minutes of the movie.
- The moment when all freezes, and EVERYONE knows the Ring's been destroyed.
- The towers and Black Gate collapsing in Mordor. -- Brydie Took
- I must say that when I saw it, I cried at least 7 times!! Such a great movie....the best of the three!!
- When Mordor collapsed... PJ nailed that one.
- The destruction of Barad-Dur. So awesome. -- Tyler
- The reactions of the fellowship members in the battle at the Gate of Mordor when they see Barad-dur collapse is great. First they all cheer for Frodo and then they fear for his life when they see Orodruin shoot out lava. Brilliant acting, especially by Dom and Ian. -- SHeRock05
- Love the writhing of the eye after the Ring has finally melted! -- rejoicing9
- Everyone in the theater had this little choked up cough near the end from so much almost-but-not-quite crying. -- Idril
- The tear rolling down Gandalf's cheek [when they think that Frodo has perished at Mount Doom] -- ButterflyGuitar
- The ground cracking everywhere except for where the good guys are standing. -- Silmira
- Wow, so awesome... The effects were awesome too... The way they have the mountain as an active volcano, and how it sorta erupts in the end. Purist though I am, RotK was pretty alright!
- I cried and I cried when Frodo and Sam were at the very end talking about the Shire that was the teariest part! (I am still crying too!)
- How dirty Sam and Frodo are at the very end of all things. The tears made paths! -- Merithehobbit
- At Mount Doom, when Frodo and Sam are sitting on the rock with all the lava around them, and Frodo starts talking about how he remembers the Shire and the party, and Sam says "Rosie Cotton dancing. She had ribbons in her hair. If ever there was someone I was gonna marry, it would be her." -- Missy
- Every part I cried/teared up in: Sam and Frodo on the outer edge of Mount Doom, watching all the lava flow around them, and Sam talking about Rosie Cotton, and Frodo's wonderful line, "I'm glad you're here with me at the end of all things, Sam" --Now4elevensies
- "Rosie Cotton dancing. She had ribbons in her hair. If I was to marry someone, it would've been her. It would've been her!" MAN...can you say 'SAD?!' -- palantir3owner
- Sam saying that, if he were to marry, it would have been Rosie Cotton. Terribly sad.
- Sam the Selfless: One of my favorite parts is right after the ring is destroyed, when Frodo and Sam are sitting on the rock, surrounded by lava, expecting to die. Frodo is euphoric that they have succeeded, against all hope or expectation, and so happy that he can remember the Shire again... then Sam, who has been so selfless and strong throughout crumbles, and Frodo realizes it is his turn to comfort Sam. It is so convincingly done, a beautiful moment. What great actors they are!
- The way Frodo and Sam held each other on the rock, and Sam talking about Rosie at the end. Completely hopeless, and yet still reminiscing on happy thoughts. -- ButterflyGuitar
